This is Dee Molenaar, author...

This is Dee Molenaar, author of the book, "Challenge of Rainier", a must read if you are going to climb this mountain. I met him and his son just above Pebble Creek as I descended the mountain. His son was 11 in 1969 so that'd make him over 50 years old today. I've included this pic as Dee Molenaar is a big part of Mt. Rainier and his contributions to Mt. Rainier are tremendous. He was nice enough to pose for me on this August day back in 1969. I really liked the father-son relationship demonstrated here. I also got my kids into the mountains and as a result, they all love them like I do.

Very GREAT, Dean ...

I met Mr. Molenaar and Bob & Ira Spring at a Mountaineers Banquet in Tacoma, WA - in 1985.
I love that book ... have read it many TIMES.

When I was a "whipper-snapper in WA," ALL of these people were my IDOLS! Great people! I MISS them.

I'm still experimenting with the scanner. Here's me on the summit of Rainier in 1984!

I agree with you Larry, they were heroes to me as well. Great men in the mountaineering community. All of them very nice. I met Dee's daughter at the Seattle REI back in the late 70's.
