Overview
Bonanza Peak is the highest non-volcanic peak in Washington State. It commands an impressive view from the Cascade pass area south to Mount Rainier. Flanked on 3 sides by impressively large glaciers, Bonanza has several sub-summits and a nice knife edge ridge between the main two summits. The first ascent party summited in 1937 and included Curtis James,Barrie James, and Joe Leuthold.
Getting There
The quickest approach is via the "Lady of the Lake" ferry service out of Chelan, WA. Get on in the town of Chelan or save some time and money and drive to 25 mile and board ferry there. Ferry schedule here There is also now a high speed ferry.
Get off at Lucerne and take the church bus up to 'town' of Holden. (Actually a religious camp). Hike west through town and continue on the Holden Lake or Lyman Lakes trail to your route of preference.
Red Tape
Permits are required as is the Northwest Forest pass.

When To Climb
May through Oct is the usual season. Winter mountaineering in the Cascades is gaining momentum. Be very alert for unfavorable avalanche conditions as cascade winters are generally wet and mild.
