Overview

The summit of Tanet is located on the main chain of the Vosges between Schlucht collar in the south and Calvaire collar in the north. The smooth west face over the Meurthe valley and the hamlet Le Valtin contrasts astonishly with the steep east face dominating the Munster valley. The landscape on this side is a succession of glacier cirques with rock walls, lakes and peat bogs. The climate at 1200 m level is here the same as in Norway or in the Alps at 2200 meters.

Tanet is not the highest mountain of this part of the Vosges, the flat Hautes Chaumes northern situated are 24 meters higher, but Tanet is the summit with the best drawed profile. The situation of the summit allows a perfect view over the huge Hohneck massif, located 10 km in the south on the other side of the Schlucht collar.

Tanet massif provides nice hikes, interesting climbing walls and offers good ski possibilities.
