I have completed the "Getting There" section and added descriptions of two of the hikes I've done so I hope you will increase your vote.

I hadn't heard of the area either until I read about it in Backpacking Magazine this past spring. My in-laws live in Grand Junction, so whenever I go out there I try to hike a new trail.

Thanks for your vote,

Andy

This is a great page! I wasn't aware that they had designated this as a Wilderness Area. Now to dig back into my files for my pix of Rattlesnake Canyon. Thanks!!

Looks pretty cool

This area looks pretty cool. Peter and I were just out here in November for the Rim Rock Run (a 37k run through the Colorado National Monument) and we said we needed to go back to do some hiking/backpacking. May have to check it out sometime...

Re: Looks pretty cool

There is some great hiking, a little climbing, and some canyoneering to be had. My in-laws live out there so I do some hiking and biking in the area a couple of times every year (riding the Monument loop is one of the best rides in the state if you ask me). I'm not sure how good the backpacking would be though because water is a little scarce. I'll bet the BLM field office could help out with some suggestions. There is probably some good car camping up around the top side if you have a high-clearance vehicle to get there.

Running it was a little, uh, brutal. I think a bike would be the way to go :-)
