A class 1 hike to great views along the Sierra crest a few miles north of Tioga Pass Dore Cliff is the principle high point on the Tioga Crest above Saddlebag Lake just north of Tioga Pass in the Hoover Wilderness. It has extensive views of the Sierra crest, north over Lundy Canyon, south to the Yosemite high Sierra and on south along the eastern scarp to the peaks around Mammoth Lakes.
Getting There From Tioga Pass go 2 miles northeast to the Saddlebag Lake Road. From Hwy. 395 go west 10 miles to the Saddlebag Lake Road. Go 2.3 miles north up the road to the lake trailhead. Go right around the right side of the lake 1.75 miles and head northeast up the slope 1.2 miles to the summit. Don't start up the Tioga Crest too early out of Saddlebag Lake unless you traverse it from Gardisky Lake. Lots of scree could be a bummer.
The full Tioga Crest can be hiked. It's about 3 miles from Gardisky Lake to Dore Cliff. CampingThere are camp grounds at the junction to the Saddlebag Lake Road to the west and the south by Ellery Lake, outside of Yosemite Nat. Park. There are also campgrounds in Lee Vining Canyon.
