OverviewEagle Peak is located in the Gila National Forest. It is part of a small group of mountains called the Tularosa Mountains. A road leads to the top of Eagle Peak, where a lookout tower is located. Other than that, Eagle Peak appears to be a largely unknown mountain. With an elevation of 9,786', Eagle Peak ranks way down on the New Mexico elevation list. But the new field of Prominence has made Eagle Peak a more important mountain. With a prominence of 2,266’, it's just big enough to make an appearance on the New Mexico Prominence Map.
Getting ThereFrom the small town of Reserve, drive north on NM Highway 12 for about two miles to the marked turnoff for the Eagle Peak Lookout. This is Forest Road 233.
