Route Climbed: Denney Creek Date Climbed: September 9, 2005
Camped at Collegiate peaks campground & got an early start. It was a nice hike throught the forest. Switchbacks above treeline were steep and grueling. Storms came in fast. We just got over the saddle ridge befor 80+ mph winds and hail hit. After 30 minutes made our way to the summit in high winds and snow/sleet mix. Lots of fast moving clouds limited visibility. It took 9 hours total. mostly because of conditions. Still a fun hike.
Route Climbed: From Denny Creek TH Date Climbed: Saturday September 17, 2005
Started up at 7:10AM on a very nice trail through the trees, the wind started just above tree line. Heavy gusts at the saddle near the summit ridge. Reached the top at 9:55 stayed about 15 mins (too windy), got back down to the TH at 12:28PM. My 21st 14'er.........sweet!!
Route Climbed: East Ridge Date Climbed: August 24, 2005
did not see this one coming. long, tedious ridge with lots of boulder hopping and obstacle dodging. dropped down to the mascot saddle and had to tree hop throught the woods to avalanche gulch. good fun......wouldn't trade it for the world.
Route Climbed: East Ridge / Descent East Flanke Date Climbed: July 29, 2005
On a beautiful summer day with no afternoon thunderstorms, conditions are perfect for a fun ridge run. No snow on the route, and we descended the curving east flank (which drops towards the kroenke lake route saddle and then bends due east) and then dropped down the aspen filled gully to the lake to regain the standard route.
Route Climbed: North Cottonwood Trailhead Date Climbed: June 22, 2005
Left at 4:00 AM. Reached Kroenke Lake at sunrise. Beautiful view. Overshot the trail up to ridge. Renamed Point 13,605 to Ball Point in honor of my alma mater, Ball State University. Our acedemic standards were much lower than Yale! Made the mistake of traversing the south slope to summit. Stay on the ridge to avoid very loose scree. Met Meagan Emmons mother on top. Her daughter holds the record for the youngest to summit all 54 peaks at age 7. Descending the East ridge, which was much safer than western approach. Completed the loop to Silver Creek Trailhead. Long day...11 hours of hiking, but well worth it at the end of the day.
Route Climbed: from Denny Gulch TH, southwest slopes Date Climbed: July 10, 2005
gorgeous day... trip report to come. Wow, I liked the super-steep straight up section on this mountain. I made summit in about 3 hrs, some others I talked to in about 4.
Route Climbed: Denny Creek Date Climbed: June 25, 2005
Great climb, one of my favorite 14ers thus far. Great views from the summit, fun scrambling from the saddle to the summit. What looked to be a rainy day cleared up and was beautiful. 6.5 hours total time.
Route Climbed: Southwest Slopes Date Climbed: June 18, 2005
WOW! What an amazing day to climb! There was not a cloud in the sky! It was a WARM hike, and we spent 2 hours on the summit! There's nothing like a beautiful kick back day on the summit of a mountain with good company:-) The glassade down was incredible! Very smooth, good speed, and had fun belly-flopping and going backwards!
