If you don't have a lot of climbing experience, this one might make you whimper a little bit! Whymper was our (Greg, Bill, Frederic, and me) goal for Canada Day, and although we didn't make it to the summit, it was a beautiful day for scrambling, with breathtaking views of Stanley Glacier, Mount Ball, and Storm Mountain directly across from us. There were still substancial patches of snow that we were able to use as we proceeded up the avalanche gully--otherwise it was pretty slow-going with the big rocks and cliff bands, especially after slogging through remnants of the 2003 fire from the beginning. We decided to turn around about 100m from the top, as there was a lot of snow and we were not properly equiped and still relatively inexperienced! Round trip was approx. 7 hours.

Besides being able to hear the traffic from Hwy 93, it's a solitary hike with absolutely gorgeous views!

A cold, blustery, snowy day with about 4 inches of new snow on everything. We made the best of it anyway.
