"As an adolescent I aspired to lasting fame, I craved factual certainty, and I thirsted for a meaningful vision of human life - so I became a scientist. This is like becoming an archbishop so you can meet girls."

Cloudy DayBeautiful but cloudy day on Mt. Townsend. Wish I could have seen the views. The trail was in great shape. A nice hike that I hope to do again on a clear day.

Perseid meteor showerCamped just below the summit to watch the Perseid meteor shower. Great views of all the cities on the Puget Sound at night; we had the whole mountain to ourselves the whole night

Beautiful DayWith Luna on a warm Fall day. Up in about 1 hour 45 minutes. Great views from the other Olympics to Victoria to Baker to Glacier to Seattle. Easier than I thought it would be so we added on Zion after this one to get 4000+ feet in today.

Beautiful DayDecided at the last minute to drive from Olympia and do Townsend finally. I got there pretty late, and charged up. The views were stupendous. I could see every volcano from Baker to Hood. A rewarding hike for the amount of effort required, I'll be back.

Last minute hikeWas supposed to go kayaking in the sound but it was blowing a good 45 knots so opted for a hike instead. Was a blast with some good snow cover on top (brand new as we were hiking) and the winds made the summit more intense. Short beautiful views through the cloud cover.

Summit via North TrailheadGood day trip up from the northern, higher trailhead. Nice walk up through the trees and out on top. Beautiful sun all day long, a little hazy for far off views but into the Olympics was beautiful. More people than I have been used to in my Olympic travels but a good hike nonetheless.

Day hikeOne of my all time favorite day hikes. I've done this hike at least five times and the view from the summit never gets old.
