Tobin  Sucess!

Props to those who drove up to 8600'. I looked at it and thought I could but did not pull the trigger as the steep angle looked intimidating. Hiked from the base and walked road until final steep slope.

37 peaks in 19 days  Sucess!

There was bad weather for weeks in WA so Heather and I drove through OR, CA, NV, UT, and ID. We climbed 37 peaks in 19 days. We hiked Star during the day and Tobin later during that evening, using headlamps to hike out. It was our 7th day and very hot. I had to jump away from a rattlesnake on Tobin. trip report

Mount Tobin  Sucess!

The dirt road heading through Grass Valley is a great, smooth dirt road, that going 65 mph on was no problem, yet I still somehow managed to blow a tire. Right before the turn off to Golconda Caynyon my tire pressure indicator light turned on, and as I turned into the canyon the tire was flat. I must have nailed something just right to do what I did. Later in the day I took my tire into Les Schwab and was shown I had about an inch long gash on the inside of my tire.
After I pulled off the road I jumped in Greg and Kadee's 4Runner and Greg drove up Golconda Canyon as far as he could. Just short of the 5800' mark pretty deep snow stopped us from preceding any further. From there we hiked up the south fork of the canyon along the road until gaining the SE ridge of Tobin. This was a very enjoyable hike along the ridge on a crystal clear day with unbelievable views in all directions. Every range you could see was blanketed in white, it was quite spectacular. Once on top we stayed long enough to take a few pics and sign the summit register before heading back down. From the top down to the road, cutting underneath the peak, we were able to get a couple good glisades in all the way down to the road at around 8800'. Once back to the road we ran most of the way back making pretty good time

Three of us  Sucess!

We met on the road south of Winnemucca, Eric Kassan, Al Sandorff and myself and made our way together to the turnoff for the mountain (Colconda Canyon road) where Eric parked his car and all three of us loaded into my Tacoma. We made our way up to near the 8682 level and hiked it from there. Nice views and nice companions. For Eric and I, it left only one more mountain in Nevada with 4000' feet of prominence left on our lists, now that we had the 23rd of the 24 we needed.
