Many visits, just one sign in
I've done this peak too many times to even count but I better sign it in just once. Summit registers shouldn't be this easy to reach :) Love this peak, trying not to wear it out. My favorite route is via the lifts but camping at the top is pretty amazing too.
I cannot say how many times I climbed this mountain since 2009.I even hiked it with a broken leg! On December 21, 2012 I broke my left fibula on the way down. I had to go down like that for 3 and a half miles in the dark. Kind of a swim...my clothes cleaned the trail. That was the longest hike of my life! The nice part of the story is the big full Moon. It was a big full Moon. I'll always remember Mount Baldy!

It's sort of a given that there would be a lot of people here but it was just too much...

Hike
Hiked with my dad. Went up the Baldy bowl trail and descended the Devil's Backbone. Fun hike with nice views.
Was I successful? Well, I survived at least. I could not find the trail above the Ski Hut, so wound up plowing straight up the right side of the Baldy Bowl through loose scree the whole way. Luckily I managed to come out right on target and didn't die before reaching the summit. I did run out of water, however, while hiking down the ski lift maintenance road to Manker Flats TH, but had a chilled bottle of water waiting for me in the car. It was a Thursday, so the lift was closed, and there was nobody at the Notch to help with water.

Ski Hut Trail
Car camped at Manker Flat. Dinner at Mt. Baldy Lodge. Big crowds on Mount Baldy but never a problem.
My first ascent with the mountain dry. A beautiful day with the expected crowd at the top.

From Manker Flat
Drove down from the Bay Area for a conference in Palm Springs - after visiting the downtown LA library I drove up to Manker Flat and hiked up to the ski lodge and took the Devil's Backbone trail up to Baldy with a side visit to West Baldy and Harwood on a fine afternoon. Barely any snow to be found anywhere, and none on the trail. Trip report is HERE.

Sunset Hike: Manker Loop (Ski Hut to Backbone).Ski Hut is 100% snow free all the way up. A few patches of snow off the north of the summit can be used to replenish water supply>
Still breezy and cool. Perfect hiking weather. Cold at night.
The Pleiades and Orion guarded the west while Ares and The Lion domineered the east. Love the stars...
