Overnight Backpack Trip  Sucess!

Completed as a backpack training hike for our upcoming JMT trek in August. Very nice backpack trek and setting. Snow was still present on part of the trail. I was not aware of the road to the summit, so this put a slight damper on our 8 mile one way trek. Still a nice outing.

A COHP and a P4000 for not much work. Or is that two COHPs?

Nice Ridge Hike  Sucess!

Parked just below Cerro Oroeste, did that one, then took Mt. Pinos Trail to Grouse Mtn., Sawmill Mtn. and finally Pinos. Enjoyed the cool, calm breezes on the ridge while the LA Basin sweltered.

Nice day  Sucess!

Nice quick hike for a nice view. I'd like to go back and do the rest of the ridge.

Unexpected Snow  Sucess!

Brought the dog along for the ride. Didn't expect to see so much snow, but it made the descent that much easier.

I miss this little mountain  Sucess!

My friends and I used to climb all over Pinos when we were in high school. Mostly we would bail after lunch during the winters from 1994 - 1997 and set up little kickers and table-tops back in the woods for our own private snowboard park. I can't be certain, but I seem to recall that we once built a small hit at the bottom of a small knoll that constitutes the summit. I love this mountains and the memories it brings back.

Three peaks  Sucess!

Traversed the high ridge of the local mountains from Cerro Noroeste, over Sawmill and up to Pinos. A relaxing, mostly wooded hike with a mixed Sierra & Outdoors Club group. Hoped to see a condor, since this is one of the few places they live in the wild, but no such luck. Did see a young adult bear crossing the road on the drive up.

X-Country  Sucess!

I tagged this one first before going over to do Sawmill Mtn. The temperature was almost 100 degrees and fortunately I had enough water to keep me from drying up and blowing away. I didn't go up the road, I just went up cross country from the parking area and in the process I spooked a couple deer that were trying to beat the heat of the day in a wooded section. I took the road down on the way back. An easy hike regardless of which way you go.

Two fer Day  Sucess!

Had a nice hike in combination with Sawmill Mtn. The day was beautiful for me, but eveidence was all around of the wild weather the day before. The snow and ice was blasted to the sides of trees and the radio tower and was falling off in chunks as the day warmed. It didn't matter if you under the tree or not. :-)
