Back in my Boy Scout days, I recall tagging this summit at the Philmont Scout Ranch with my Troop. Its not the tallest mountain, but it did create some good memories!
Route Climbed: From Red Hills camp Date Climbed: July 16, 2002
After the hike from Beubien to Red hills, in which we climbed Bonita Peak and Big Red, we set up camp and started up with day packs. It was cloudy and I had a bad cold that day but our whole trek made it. We could see Taos from the summit. On the descent we also bagged Comanche which has no views at all but it gave us a 4-peak day.
Route Climbed: From Clear Creek Camp Date Climbed: July 1986
Philmont Trek 701-M
This is the highest peak on Philmont that I have been on. I returned to Philmont 2 years later on Trail Crew and wanted to climb Baldy but the rest of my crew said no.
On our way up we met a group running down the mountain saying it was extremely cold and was hailing. When we reached the summit the temperature was around 40 F with maybe 20 mph winds. It was drizzling and was foggy. As there was not much to see we signed the summit log and headed down toward Sawmill.

7/23/00 - Philmont Trek 717-K1
Excellent view! We took the trail up the north face from Clear Creek and then headed down to Sawmill. This was the highest peak of our trek.
7/25/01 - Philmont Rayado Trek 717-RM3
This was the second peak out of six for our day, after Comanche. We reached it early in the morning, then headed over Big Red, Bear and Black Mountains to achieve bragging rights to Super Black Death. Best day of my life!
7/13/02 - Philmont R.O.C.S. Trek 630-MR
A fairly easy climb from Cypher's Mine to Thunder Ridge, over Comanche Peak and finally up to the summit. We slept right by the summit and watched a spectacular sunset over Wheeler Peak.
