Dumping snow all day. Went up Profanity trail via Long trail. Extra .6 RT due to road being closed. Post-holing knee deep at times up on Profanity and complete whiteout on top. Beautiful winter wonderland... bit more work though with conditions and all the fresh powder. Good times
Drove up the toll road and hiked along the trail in the clouds. Intermittent rain and wind on slippery rock made it an adventure. The trip proved Charlotte, Alice, and Susie "are not completely useless."
I hiked this one from the trailhead at the end of the toll road. The weather was perfect and the round-trip hike took about 60 minutes.

This was my 4th state highpoint. We started off in the early afternoon and the temperature at trailhead was mild as I recall. We hiked the Sunset Ridge trail and I was charmed by how beautiful it was in the beginning, with all the trees, plants, mushrooms, bridges, babbling brooks, birds, and little chipmunks. Every once in a while, we would come to a clearing in the trees that would offer up beautiful views of the fall foliage in the valley below. All the while we were traversing through the woods, the trail was very rocky, but once we got close to the top of the treeline and above it, it was pretty much all rocks. This was the most challenging part for me. Once we got to the top, the views were fan-freaking-tastic, but then the wind started whipping up and we descended from the summit quickly to get away from it. Beautiful hike, amazing views, beautiful state!

Great Hike and Summit
Long Trail / Profanity Trail up to the beautiful summit; loved this mountain. Trail easy to follow, mostly tree-lined woods until the last half mile. Plenty of other folks hiking on a great summer day.

1st state high point
With the help of a local friend of a friend I summited my first state high point on a trip to Vermont. Loved seeing the ecosystems change with elevation and the tundra on the top reminded me of Alaska. Only ones at the summit for sunrise!

Larvitour Stop #23
I started up from Underhill State Park around noon. It had rained a lot recently, so I took the Sunset Ridge trail, which the ranger had recommended as the least waterlogged. The going was still pretty wet, but not nearly as bad as Mt. Marcy the day before. Though the weather had cleared up down below, everything above treeline was locked in clouds... my second cloudy summit. Oh well. The scrambling was still fun, and all the waterfalls along the trail were going like crazy.

Quick and Enjoyable Scramble
The nice thing about this hike is that about half of it is in the open air. Makes for good stopping points along the way up

White Wash of Sunset Ridge
The weather stole my views as visibility wasn't great with the snow and wind. Fun climb. Went down Laura Cowles.
Hell Brook Trail. Short, steep climb with some short, fun scrambles.

Top of VT
Cold and Clear to start the day with 5-6 fresh on the ground. Wind was whipping up top and clouds moved in. Could see a dark line of clouds over the ADK that approached quickly from the west. Awesome day to top out Vermont! Took Sunshine ridge? is that correct? Sounds right!

I hiked this via the Long's trail. I loved the views. The "Green Mountain" state is aptly named.
Did this one on the middle day between Marcy and Katydin. Underhill State Park is about forty minutes west of Burlington. Took the Sunset trail up and back in about four hours total. Fun, strenuous hike with warblers serenading me all the way up the mountain. Steward at the top was super friendly. A little rain on he way down but otherwise no slip ups.
First ever mountain! and first highpoint. I hiked in a large group of college students and it was a nice challenge for my early mountain self. I had no idea it started a small fire inside of my that would later explode into a move to the west.
The views from the top showed a spectacular valley of lush green trees. Wish I could go back and soak it all in again.
