Almost looks like water...

The shadow on the dead-flat meadow makes look like a lake. I had to do a double take.

Re: Almost looks like water...

Andy Todd, thanks for the comments. BTW, this is a cropped photo, it seems to look better cropped. I have to admit that I was very impressed with Big Meadows and I'm somewhat curious to see what it looks like without all that snow. It's as flat as the Texas panhandle.

Todd or anybody, I just purchased the Nikon 8400. It's a 8.0 with a 24mm lense. So far i love it. Question: The photo above was taken in a Dusk/Dawn preset. My first ever in that preset. The camera also has a Sunset preset that I am familiar with from my prior camera the 5400. Do you know how the camera is preset for these two similar modes. Or are they similar? A Dusk photo comes out different than a Sunset photo. Where or what is the difference?

I'm not sure how they do those presets, Kane. They might figure that for a sunset, you'll be pointing the camera towards the light source, like the sun or brightly lit clouds, whereas for dusk/dawn, it's subdued light. But that's only a guess.

BTW, sorry to have taken 8 days to respond. I always forget to check here to see if there are new messages.

Son of BTW: After more than 25 years as a dedicated film shooter, I'm just about ready to pull the trigger and go digital. Although the pro SLR cameras are very expensive, I'm seeing results that rival the quality of my large-format system. The thought of knocking about half the weight off my camera pack figures into the equation, too. Maybe sometime we'll have to go shooting together, and I'll be glad to help you in any way I can.
