As I stood on Pennell a week ago, I looked over and wanted to do Hillers so bad but my hiking companion was pretty much "done". He didn't have much left in the tank so we went and did Abajo instead.
This is pure inspiration and will keep me motivated to return for Hillers. Again, congrat's on an outstanding page. Be sure to be the first to sign the summit log.
You did a awesome job on this page. great pics and great information.

approach from Starr Springs?
Any idea if an approach from Starr Springs Campground is feasible? On GoogleEarth and topos the terrain and tree cover look very similar. It would certainly add some mileage, with round-trip distance more like 10 miles. I might be camping here in a few weeks, and it would be great to roll out of the tent and start straight up the south face!
You can climb from Starr Springs, but the route is rugged. The south side of Hillers is also the most scenic. High on the ridge are also some nice bristle cone pines. Just don't expect an easy route (but an enjoyable one if you don't mind rugged climbs).
