Sawtooth
Fun climb via the Sawtooth. For the most part at least--with all the snow on Evans West Ridge, routefinding was difficult when I couldn't see the cairns. My profile pic at the time of this posting is me eating a PBJ somewhere before reaching that ridge.
Took 2 of my kids and 2 of my friends' kids (16, 14, 13, and 11) up Mt Evans through Guanella Pass on a morning after a long hard rain (and snow higher up). The willows were HORRIBLE and the trail was sooooo BOGGY and MUDDY until we got around the hill, and even then we had to worry about the occasional bog in the middle of a dry path.
Anyway, it was a great day because the kids made a great team. The wind was horrible at higher altitudes, but most of the kids were well dressed (albeit a little wet after the bogs). The 14 year old twisted her ankle during the way up, so it made for a VEEEEERRRY long day. We started at 7AM but didn't make the truck until 8:15PM amidst flashlights and trailfinding.
For 2 of the kids, it was their 1st 14er (heck of a 1st one, huh?), for another kid it was his 2nd, another one her 4th, and this was my 14th. Gonna try to hit a few more before the snow sets in.
Truly, I'd volunteer to be part of a team that created a TRUE path through the bogs. Anyone up for it? Let me know!

We climbed from Summit Lake, all the way around the ridge to the summit. Met a few people on the way, but mostly sparse. Got sick on the summit, but made it down. I plan to go back and climb it from the Guanella Pass Trailhead.

B-Day Hike
Over from Bierstadt via the really fun Sawtooth Ridge. Did not arrive til the afternoon, and the post labor-day road closure made for far fewer people on top, only about 6 or 7 while I was up there. Was lucky to not get rained on during the trip back to Guanella Pass. A great birthday hike!

Climbed with Haliku via the Sawtooth Ridge after coming off Bierstadt. The ridge was a blast! Tagged the summit and headed over to Spalding.

From the Sawtooth
Climbed with rkymtn as part of our goal to do the Sawtooth ridge linking Bierstadt and Evans. Lots of people on the summit and route from the Summit Lake TH.
Started on Evans road at the Epaulet saddle and descended the gully to the Lake Fork valley. Ascended Bierstadt from just above Abyss Lake. Took the Sawtooth over to Evans and back down the road to the car.

Beautiful day, Ugly Summit
Completed the well marked Mt. Evans Loop. So we hit Mt. Spaulding AND Evans! This was 14er #10 fr me. WOO HOO! The West Ridge of Evans is full of fun climbing! But alas, the summit was SO packed! I have never been on a summit with so many people! Nor have I ever smelled exhaust at 14,000 feet...

Route Climbed: Sawtooth from Bierstadt
This is not the 1st time I climbed Mt. Evans but it's the first time I did it via the Sawtooth Ridge. 3 friends came with me; we parked at Bierstadt.
We had offers from tourists to take us back to our parking as a storm approach but we didn't care to. Instead, we went back the same way and got hit by rain and hail. I slipped 40 feet down a path but managed to find an unused trail. My friends knew I was ok when they heard my coded whistle (always carry a whistle with you). We made it back to the car with bit of hypothermia and discovered that I had a flat in the rear passenger tire. Hahaha!! What a SUPER Great Day!
The next weekend we found ourselves exploring the Maroon Bells.

Mt. Evans
Purposefully did this mountain on a Monday. Only ran into 2 other people on the trail, of course the summit was another story since you can drive there. Kind of weird seeing a parking lot and people in street clothes. I actually felt kind of "out-of-place" and grubby for the first time on a 14'er!!

Lovely!
Just signing the log. Growing up in Evergreen, this was my backyard playground. I've climbed this one many times, using nearly all the routes, from every direction, in every season, and all conditions. If you don't want to do the overcrowded summer westerly/"Tooth" routes, a long fun route to try is from "Camp Rock", west of upper Bear Creek in Evergreen, to Bear Track Lakes and then a line up to the upper south faces of Evans. The couloir out of Chicago Creek Basin is fun 4th class stuff too. Just before the road opens, or just after it closes, the road up from Echo Lake is an awesome mountain bike trip. In winter, the road up is an outstanding cross country ski route. Good times!!!

Willows!
Climbed via the Sawtooth and West Ridge. Staying on top of the ridge is much more fun than the trail on the south side of the ridge. The willows on the descent lived up to their reputation.
