Summit Lake/Evans/Spalding
From Summit Lake to Evans to Spalding and back to the lake. Great hike, most of it well above 13000 feet. Nice day too, and it wasn't too crowded.

Sawtooth
The sawtooth is an amazing traverse, but the elevation kicked my butt during the last mile or so to Evans. We ended up walking down the road and getting a ride to Idaho springs from a friendly couple who had hiked the cirque that day (thanks!). Pictures from the traverse are at http://www.flitterbick.net/photo/tripsandevents/sawtooth/ .
There was a circus at the top, and I think that we were the only climbers...

Mt. Evans
Great day for a bike ride. Started in Idaho Springs at 8:30am. Hit the summit at 12:30. Went from sunshine to snow in 15 minutes. Took 1 hr. to get down. Great day!

I absolute loved the Sawtooth, very high on the fun meter. I got a laugh the fat guy in North Face gear that “climbed” from the parking lot. Lots of Mountain Goats in the area. Part of a 10 day 18 14,000 ft. summit solo climbing trip.

Route: Summit Ridge from Summit Lake
Our first 14er! With husband and sister. We had only been living in Colorado for a few weeks at this point. Went around summit ridge from Summit Lake and descended NE face. I guess I have to go back and climb this one the "real" way one of these days, since this is only about 1,800 vert.
Hiked with a group via Echo Lake on a plesant late August day, most of them had a few too many beers the night before to get up early, but a few of us enjoyed the beautiful hike and descended via one of the class three variations for some added fun.
Route Climbed: Not Listed Date Climbed: August 1996
I parked at Summit lake and walked around the lake to the other side. I found a couloir almost half way between Evans and Spalding, closer to Evans and climbed up that and gained the ridge probably 300-400 meters away from Evans. It was my first experience in a couloir (other than the trough-which I was quite used to). very windy on top.
Came straight down the east slope and picked up the road. Not too many people
Route Climbed: Summit Lake to Spaulding to Evans Date Climbed: 6/30/02
This was my 4th 14er and the most fun one yet. Ran into goats close to Spaulding summit. Fun talus hike on West side of Evans as you climb SE to summit.
Route Climbed: the Sawtooth Date Climbed: August 9th, 2003
Combo day, did this in conjunction with Mount Bierstadt, just because it was convenient to do both of them at the same time. Great view but people with cars make this a little too accessible for my taste. I hate crowds on the summit.
