Obsidian Flatline

FYI - Forest Road 66 is signed as "Little Walker River Road."

I couldn't find a trail at Obsidian Flat, which I assumed was the flat area near the junction of Little Walker River Road and the road to Obsidian Campground. I drove to the end of the campground and found a trailhead, with no information on the sign, no clue whatsoever about where the trail led. I gave it a try, but it headed east, then relentlessly south - not toward Emma. I turned around and hiked back to the trailhead, then drove back to Obsidian Flat in my low-clearance rental car. I didn't want to get stuck, so I parked a short distance beyond the bridge and simply trudged up the road to Stockade Flat, where the Emma Lake Trail apparently really starts. That trailhead actually has no information, either - but I didn't need it at that point.

The lesson is that the information is misleading. If you have a low-clearance car and you park at Obsidian Flat, you have to trudge up the road to Stockade Flat, where the Emma Lake Trail really begins. There is no access to the Emma Lake Trail at Obsidian Flat.
