Near Fatal Accident on SW ridge  Sucess!

I almost lost one of my best friends on this trip. I'll always feel sick to my stomach when I recall the scene. Josh and I were descending from the summit on the SW ridge route. Near the bottom of the ridge are some steep loose slopes and minor cliff bands. We got to one nasty spot and I told Josh I would wait for him to proceed below me until he was out of the rock fall danger zone. When it appeared like he was far enough to the right, I started down. Immediately I triggered a large boulder, 3 feet by 1.5 feet. I yelled "rock" and watched in horror as he moved quickly back to the left, directly into the fall path. It all happened within a few seconds. The rock bounced a few times and struck him in the head and then plowed over him. He tumbled out of sight, 30 or 40 feet below. I couldn't believe what I had seen. I started screaming and scrambling down to look for him. I was yelling and he was not responding. When I got yo him a few minutes later he was covered in blood and had just regained consciousness. His injuries were numerous. He kept asking me every 30 seconds. "Where are we? What happened? Was it a rock?". He couldn't remember my answers and asked repeatedly for 15 minutes. I'll let him tell the rest of the story.

Fun Scramble  Sucess!

This was my first ever Canadian Rockies summit. Fun scramble, and extra memorable linking it up with Mt Edith! I got off the ridge/route near the summit and ended up on some sketchy loose terrain, though, so stick to the ridge!

Route Climbed: South Ridge Date Climbed: March, 2005  Sucess!

I have to admit that this was actually my 3rd attempt at Cory. The first, the wife, dog and I went up the wrong rib, one west of the correct rib that leads to the summit ridge. The second attempt was made in February. Cold windy weather moved in and I did not want to be known as the guy who had an epic on Cory. Good winter trip though. I recommend it.
