Unexpectedly beautiful
What a fantastic little walk so close to civilization. I saw several trucks come up the lookout road, but it's gnarly in some places - partially due to storm damage from this year's record rains and Tropical Storm Hilary. Canyon views were outstanding, but the basin was largely washed out by incoming moisture from Hurricane Norma. Cabin was open and had a nice chat with the lookout.

From Highway 38
Walked the fire road up to the top, grabbed Peak 4030 on the way back.

On the way to Cram Peak; nice views from the top. I was able to drive to the locked gate about halfway up the road in my 2WD Hyundai Tucson with no problems.

snowy, wet dayHiked up the fire road from highway 38. Then followed a ridge over to Cram Peak. Light snow flurries and low clouds made for a very pleasant hike.
