What an accomplishment to finally have this peak behind you! Also to add that you had already completed several P2Ks on this same trip before hiking Mormon Peak.
Hey High-pointers, this is great. Lemme give ya five!
But, does "operating out of Mesquite, NV, for a few days" mean
you were pulling that handle up and down on the slot machine ???
I remember seeing "all that snow" on the Virgin Mountains during
the holidays. The atmospheric conditions made them look closer
than normal to Valley of Fire SP where my wife and I visited.
Just hoping all that snow translated into filling Lake Mead ..
Hi Eric, great to be back in action. That was a great trip. Look forward to hooking up with you again for a peak or two. Grandview is still waiting or have you done that one?
Nope. I told myself I wasn't touching that peak unless you came along. The only way you or I bag that one is if we do it together. I won't let you go without me!
It was a jewel of a trip. When the weather sucks elsewhere, this part of Nevada is a good choice. Dennis is from the rainy/snowy Medford area and I'm living in the snowy Utah area so it was nice to find sun and warmth. Thanks for your comments.
that it can still be climbed. Will have to make it out that way. btw, though it has a DPS ammo box, Mormon Peak is not on the DPS list, nor was it on the list in the past, from what I can tell.
Did a quick run out there today. The gates are all open and roads are good. Be sure to stay on the main road until you pass the private railroad crossing and the rusty water tank. About 2 tenths mile past the RR Xing. Didn't need 4x4 but don't take a car out there.
Turned around just before the trailhead. About 2 hours from mesquite. Never saw another soul. Maybe it's busier on weekends.

Re: Congrats!Thank you Sacha. I'm glad we didn't attempt it when it had all that snow on it. It was also nice to finally get Virgin and Bangs Peaks.
