Moonflowers

This plant is also called Sacred Datura or Jimson Weed. I took this photo early in the morning in May 2007. These flowers tend to wilt as the day progresses and open again in the evening to attract sphinx moths. In the background you can see (from left to right): Rainbow Peak, Rainbow Wall, Magic Mountain and Juniper Peak. Red Rocks, Nevada.

A CURIOSITY

A curiosity. This plant was used in Europe by witches in the Middle Age because is a very potent hallucinogenic. Datura produce what is called Anticholinergic Syndrom. Really dangerous if ingested.
I can easily understand that one of the picks is called Magic. Maybe some body had a psychotic/magic experience around there or was reading Thomas Mann.

Thanks for adding this interesting info Javier.
I read that Native Americans also used these plants for some of their rituals, but I don't know any more details.
