Monster In The Woods

Monster In The Woods

A 400-foot monster in the woods of Oregon. Dod Route (III 5.11 or C2F) follows the obvious crack system up to bulging headwall below the final summit slabs.

Unbelieveable!

What is the diameter at the base?

Re: Unbelieveable!

Yeah, it's a cool tower. Not sure what the base diameter is but this photo provides a frame of reference:

I'm >6 ft. The formation has more of an elliptical x-section so it's a bit fatter along the dimension you're seeing head-on here (but not much).

Re: Unbelieveable!

I think that it really is one of the most dramatic towers I've seen (& certainly one of the most dramatic I've climbed). More so than many in the desert SW.

Thanks for stopping by :)

Scary monster!

Very exposed. I would be more scared of the whole thing falling over than climbing the thing.
You chose a good vantage point for the shot.
Happy climbing,
Marc

Re: Scary monster!

Thanks Marc. I was more worried about the thing falling apart on us as some of its lower portions seems to consist of huge, hollow sounding blocks :)
