Monkey Face from the...

Monkey Face from the southwest after a December snow storm. West face is the prominent face on the left (narrows down near top); south face is distinguishable only near the top on the right side (December 2003).

Monkey face, amazing.

One of the best pics I've seen showing this formation. You nailed this one.

Springboard is a nose.

If you gaze at this one for a while, you can see a man's head with open mouth laughing up at MonkeyFace. The springboard is the nose from below and the ledge below it is the lower jaw and tongue. Kinda cool. Maybe that formation is the Barker? Or the Laughing Jane Goodall? ;- )

Nice photo Radek. At first I thought, "Cool, they are already out at Smith." Then I saw the photos of the Water Groove with Shirley in a parka and I thought "Crazy, they must have froze."

Re: Springboard is a nose.

Hey Brian,

sorry for the late response - we've been away and just got back. Hope you had good holidays.

yeah, Smith was pretty chilly (progressively more so with each trip we've done there since mid December) but not too bad (35 - 45F....possibly upper 40's in the sun).

yeah, I see what you're talking about photo-wise!

This shot really shows why its called Monkey Face!

Great shot! Hey Radek - would you mind if I labeled the West side route, Pioneer Route, & Belays and either post it on SP or send it to you for posting? This is a good vantage point!

Re: This shot really shows why its called Monkey Face!

Thanks PW!

Sounds like you guys enjoyed the Monkey :)

I can certainly send you the photo (need to find it first - it's no longer on my HD). It would be good I think to include some of the other routes visible there though I think (the West Face Variation itself's got like 4 or 5 variations); was also thinking of including the West Face (that's the aid line) route as well but I haven't had the chance to finish that one yet. Maybe the 5.11 free route that colbyj submitted to the page could be partially shown?

Let me know what you think.

Thanks for stopping by!
