Rafting and a Short Hike
My family from Utah came to visit so we decided to raft Browns Canyon. We had never gone rafting before and had some fun on some Class III and one Class IV rapid. We watched two rafts tip before going through Slidell's Suckhole ourselves. Luckily, our guide skirted us around the most dangerous part of the rapid and we stayed relatively dry. The next day I dragged my sore family out of the rental and up Midland Hill. Great views of the valley and the Collegiate Peaks. So much snow still on the 14ers right now.

Midland Hill
Just a quick walk up/training hike but still a nice one.
Climbed up this one late morning on a cloudy spring day after a dawn ascent of Quail.

This is a beautiful snow season hike. The Sawatch views weren't as great as we hoped b/c the mountains were socked in with snow. But stomping through the powder (we took a "scenic" ascent route) then strolling back through the snow-covered desert was nice.

Midland Hill
One of the more hectic things I ever did!
Woke up at 3:30 a.m. in Janesville, Wisconsin, drove to Chicago and took a flight to Denver. Drove to Buena Vista, pulled my hiking clothes out of the suitcase and put them on in the car. Started the hike at 2:40 p.m and was on the summit by 3:40 p.m. Great hike with wonderful views. I am sure during the morning hours the views of the Peaks of the Sawatch Range (to the west) will be much better than the afternoon. Good way to acclimatize.
