Afternoon light above stećci in Dugo polje (Long field), which lies between Cvrsnica (2.226m) and Vran (2.074m) mountains. Snowy tops of Cvrsnica mountain are visible in background. The Stećci are monumental medieval tombstones that lie scattered across Bosnia and Herzegovina. Today there are about 60.000 known Stećci in existence found at 3.000 locations, mostly in higher mountain areas. April 2011

Re: Very interesting site,

They are very often placed in very remote mountain areas. Despite weather conditions, big number of them are in relatively good condition.
These medieval tombstones are one of symbols of Bosnian existence for a very long time. However, very impressive and interesting site to see, once you're in these mountains...
