Matkov skaf (Matk's Tub)

Matkov skaf (Matk's Tub)

Below Mrzla gora in late spring a special natural phaenomenon can be found. That is 'Matkov škaf' (Matk's Tub). During a winter masses of snow are falling over the rocky wall, above which a steep ravine continues. When it gets warmer, over the wall drizzling water is falling on the snow cone. So, it carves a giant hole, ultimately reaching the inclined scree field below. Then we say the tub is cut through. Winter 2008 was nothing special with snow. End of May it suddenly became very warm and water did its job quickly. On the top the Tub was some 10 meters of a diameter and it was some 20 meters deep. Hard to estimate the numbers, but the impression on me, finding the place, was astonishing. May, 29th, 2008.

Re: wow

Yes. It melts every year and gets created again.
