Hey Jon, first off thanks for writing this up. It's really handy.
I'm planning on taking my friend up the Catherine Lakes route next week. It's going to be her first serious climb on snow/ice, and I was wondering if you had any tips on the difficulty of the route for a first-timer.
@Rbasu - follow the beta in my report on this page (IE: stick low along the lake as and get into the snow chute low. With the drought this year, I'd try calling some local rangers or putting a post on SP to see if you can get recent conditions. You might not need crampons and an axe? Overall, it's PG if you stay off the ridge. You stay ON the ridge it's definitely 3rd class scrambling with the occational 4th class move.
