Mali Rajinac (1699m), highest peak of
North Velebit, from the vast
Jezera, a high undulating plateau (1400-1500m). Left, in the distance, is its brother
Veliki Rajinac (1667m). In front is one of many funnel shaped depressions.
Recently there is talk that ski and cross country ski center is going to be built here. Yes, there are meters of snow here each winter, they know it, but because of Velebit's extreme weather, especially Bura wind, Jezera will be unusable half of the winter and just a thought that this amazing, untouched and so beautiful corner of North Velebit will be ruined makes me faint from anger and disappointment. That is why it has been left outside of nearby
North Velebit National Park and it should be inside! I hope they won’t stretch a chair lift to the summit of Mali Rajinac too?!
Here is how Jezera look in winter.
