China CapBrian the peak in question is definately China Cap. The pyramidal peak on its immediate left is Burger Butte.

Re: China CapAnother nice picture showing off the Eagle Cap mountains. This is a great area to explore with tons of great summits.

Re: China CapYeah, I thought about this one. There doesn't appear to be any trails or routes to the summit from any source I can find but I know a trail in one of Sullivan's books that gets you close to a ridge that looks scramble-able from the drawing in the book. That's a lot of "ifs" but everything in the Wallowas I've seen except for Twin Peaks is scrambleable (I'm sure there are lots that are technical though). Besides, it would make for a fun adventure to see if it would work. (hint, hint) :- )

Re: China CapSP outing for China Cap in the workings here? I think I saw a trail on the Wallowas map that gets you pretty close to the peak - I'm sure we could scramble the rest of the way up.
By the way, how bad is the scramble up the remaining of the Twin Peaks pillars I wonder. I think the maintainer of TP mountain page says it's loose and there's a tip-over danger but still.........scrambling up there would be pretty irresistable once at the base :).

Re: China CapPillars are technical I thought.

Re: China CapSullivan's E. OR book has a photo of China Cap on pg. 152. Approach is from Buck Cr. TH at 5500' . RT dist. to Burger Pass (7940') is 8.8 miles. From pass it's under a mile along what looks like S. ridge of CC to its summit. Looks like a fun one.
