And Box Elder Peak Too

There's a primary benchmark along Traverse Ridge used for the triangulation of Utah and Salt Lake Counties. Have you or did you get a picture of it?

Re: And Box Elder Peak Too

I haven't seen that yet. Perhaps it is covered by snow at this time of year. I took this pic from Peak 6476. Is it on the Steep Mountain aspect of the county line? http://www.listsofjohn.com/PeakStats/Climbers.php?Id=22536

Re: And Box Elder Peak Too

I haven't been up there for over a decade and a half, but it seems like it is at the View (6682ft), SE along the road from 6476ft.

Re: And Box Elder Peak Too

There is this one near the triangulation structure at View Bm:

It isn't on the county line from what I can tell from the topo map.

BTW, do you know of one of the ridges or canyons on the north side referred to as "the widowmaker". I ran into some runners up there saturday that said they came up that way. ??

Re: And Box Elder Peak Too

Thanks for the picture. It seems though when I was there there was an old one at the triangulation station. As for the "widowmaker" all I could find was an old Deseret News article (http://www.deseretnews.com/article/47000/MOTORBIKE-CLIMB-ON-WIDOWMAKER-MAY-BITE-THE-DUST-THIS-YEAR.html?s_cid=s10) citing it's demise as an annual race up a ridge.

Re: And Box Elder Peak Too

Thanks... I'm heading out the door in a few minutes to go back up to that area. I think I'll hike over to Steep Mtn from Pk 6476 and check it out. My day off so I need to do something physical. Steep Mtn link

Re: And Box Elder Peak Too

I found this marker near the summit of Steep Mountain. I tried to find others but snow covered most everything else. Was this (link) what you remembered?

This was the view from the top of Peak 6476. It is about a mile and a half hike following the old ATV tracks to get to the summit where a small antenna is powered by a couple solar panels. The marker was close to that. See pic HERE

Re: And Box Elder Peak Too

No that's not what I remember but then again I have a really poor memory. That is a cool picture though. Thanks. Now you have me wanting to wander those hills again after all these year looking for bench markers.

Re: And Box Elder Peak Too

Here's an album I made up to whet your appetite for a return visit. I went up there monday and enjoyed that area. The snow added a nice dimension but it wasn't bad enough to require snow shoes on the north side of Peak 6476
