A great day
On my third trip to Red Rocks I decided not to mess around. I'd only been climbing for a few weeks after a couple of months off after an accident but I was feeling reasonably fit and wanted to try something big. My partner John (a local) suggested Levitation, one of the few area mega classics he had yet to tick. So after arriving at his house and catching a few hours sleep, we took off at dawn on an absolutely beautiful day. We were climbing by 7. John took the odd pitches; I got the even. It seemed like we had the entire canyon to ourselves--certainly the entire wall. The climbing was fantastic, although neither of us could onsight the crux. The route took 5.5 hours, plus a quick trip to the summit. We walked out of the canyon with a full moon rising over Las Vegas. An awesome day.
