Lee Mountain After The Storm

Lee Mountain After The Storm

The summit of Lee Mountain, (6,592'), is the fifth highest of the Sedona area summits. The only route possible to reach Lee's flat summit is to take the road up Jack's Canyon to its end; then continue up a "jeep trail" to Jack's Canyon Tank. This small pond lies in the canyon between Lee Mountain to the NW and Horse Mesa to the SE. Continue cross-country up a steep side canyon to the summit plateau from the tank. Please don't try this in the heat of summer! Jack's Canyon was named after Jack Harrington, a cowboy who moved cattle up and down the canyon between the valley and the Mogollon Rim. The route up the canyon starts as a sunny, warm walk in a broad canyon of desert grass studded by cat's claw, prickly pear and juniper. As the elevation increases, nearby canyons are exposed to view. Near the trail's end, at 5.7 miles, go past the saddle to the top of Munds Mountain, which at 6,834' is the second highest of the summits near Sedona, Arizona. February 11, 2009

Nice

beta on the summit, Larry... going over Munds is indeed the only really decent way to reach Lee. Though every year, the trails move farther inland!

Re: Nice

Yeah, I know what you mean !

Jack's Canyon is really growing with suburbia! The "old days" seemed a lot better.

Hey! I heard that Thursday nite is "Cowboy
Night" at the Museum Club ... : ))
