I have only climbed Rucu in Ecuador with my girlfriend and had the same apprehension. But We only found great friendly people as well. The person we climbed with, a friend of ours has been climbing Rucu since he was a child and also informed us that the violence was very isolated and if climbed from the Teleferico is safe. Congratulations on your summits! Way to push it!
What do you know, we must have had an impromptu SP gathering on Cotopaxi!
Now there's a coincidence, I was at the refuge and climbed on the same day that you did. We probably even talked a bit!
I remember the Germans too, but not the gear shuffle; I slept with ear plugs.
Re: What do you know, we must have had an impromptu SP gathering on Cotopaxi!
yup, we sure did! You were the guy who climbed solo right? If so, we were the group that you talked to right before people started turning in (I asked you about good mountains to climb in Germany in March), I think you had the bunk next to Shawn.
Thank you for a great account.
I'm going at the end of november. My plan: Pichincha, Iliniza and cotopaxi. any further tips will be received gratefully.
BTW: contacted Freddy from Sierra Nevada and awaiting his quote re the trip.
