Great page! I would like to add some information about the first climb. It was made as early as in 1889 by the group of G. Vulley(if I only spell it right) who also climbed Mizirgi(5025) at the same year. In 1888(when Mummery was the first man on the top of Dich-Tau) Vulley climbed Catin-Tau. Also he climbed Bjzeduh(beautiful mountain above Kashka-Tash glacier in Adilsu) and some other mountains, don't remember years though. Pretty heroic man...
All the best to you and thank you for writing about Cavkaz.
the russians in bezengi gave me the info i put on the page and they never mentioned vulley. on the other hand, they didn't mention mummery or kokkin being in the area climbing either, until i brought it up.
do you think this is because it buggers them a bit that non-russians summited many of the peaks first?
I suppose the reason why climbers in Bezengi didn't mention Vulley, Mummery and others is just their lack of information. More climbers now persue only technical ambitions, compare to climbers of older generation who knew EVERYTHING about mountains.
I assume Vulley is English (taking into consideration that mist of the climbers in the central Caucasus were English). He probably climbed up to North Crest(4A) of Koshtan-Tau, as the easiest routes were usually choosen in those days. There is peak called Vulley in Adil-Su. Unfortunately I don't have more information as my mountain library was left in Moscow after I mooved to Israel 15 years ago.
I really appreciate your Caucasus contributions, they are one by one of a very high standard. I fell in love with the Caucasus last summer. I am also thinking of climbing some other Caucasian peaks not yet in SP. I can't wait to go there again and share my experiences with SP members.

Going there?
Drop me a line if you need info. There are so many "hidden" places there which many miss out on and head; Home-Elbrus-Home. A shame.
