Impressive time. But I think you are mixing up Gunsight and Anderson passes. You come to Gunsight Pass first. Anderson Pass is directly on the shoulder of Kings.
Thank you very much for pointing this out, Bark Eater. You are definitely correct: I got the passes mixed up. Now I have to go back and made the changes in the entire trip report.
I had it stuck in my head that King's Peak required an overnight and couldn't be done as a day trip. While I might not make it in less than 11 hours, I'm pretty sure I could do it in a day.
Thanks!
It absolutely can be done as a day hike. It will be a long day and it will be tiring, but it's doable. Now, in my "defence", I only do day hikes, no matter how long it takes. To me the hiking experience is really about the challenge. The admiration of God's creation only comes as a by-product. My trek came to be 25 miles since I took the shortcut from Gunsight and came down via toilet bowl. Following the main trail round-trip would be almost 29 miles. That would add a good 1.5 hours to the trip. Good luck and thank you for dropping me a note.
Looks way different than when I did it in early june! I was encountering waist deep snow as early as Dollar Lake then, not to mention the deep swamps and bad weather(it was a brutal slog). Looks a lot more enjoyable this time of year!
Thank you for the nod. That much snow in June, huh? Crazy. Look at my pictures; the only patch of snow I saw was at the top of Gunsight Pass, up on the right side of that West Gunsight Mountain. Everything was as dry as a bone. Even when I crossed from the toilet bowl to the main trai, across that meadow, I had no trouble. But I'll tell you one thing: unless I'm getting paid, I have no interest in hiking this again. The weather is just to temperamental. It apears that I was very lucky to just show up and hike in a perfect day.
Agreed. I camped out in the valley near dollar lake for several days, and was hit by two major thunderstorms(tons of close lightning and hail). I got lucky and had a decently calm day to make the summit. On the way back I got hit with another huge thunderstorm. The weather is crazy in the Uintas!!!
