Keyhole Ablaze

Keyhole Ablaze

The August morning sun sets the Keyhole ablaze.
Such are the glories of the highcountry in the early day.
The Agnes Vaille Shelter is at left of the Keyhole.

structure?

What is the stone building, a ranger station or shelter hut? I have never been on Longs Peak.

Re: structure?

Hey SLS,

Like the little stone structure on the summit of Mt. Whitney, this shelter at the Keyhold of Longs is infamous for acting as a lightening magnet when folks caught in storms seek shelter inside. At this point, I believe its purpose is mostly of an historic nature.

PS: Get yourself up Longs Peak via the Keyhole Route. It is a fantastic (albeit very social) alpine experience!
