There's an airport SE of Kernville we've flown into. Great short flight from Los Angeles.

My fiance grew up in the Lake Isabella area and we visit this area on average once/month or so. I've camped at the Lake and alongside the Kern River and hiked the Mill Creek Trail in the lower canyon and many trails in the upper part of the canyon. I also enjoy driving this area's many back roads including the Breckenridge Road, the Bodfish-Caliente Road, the Kelso Valley Road, the Bird Springs Road, the Portuguese Pass Road, and the Sherman Pass Road.

Absolutely *beautiful* in fallLots of places to stay in the canyon, which is gorgeous in fall color. Perfect hiking weather, too, as it isn't stinking hot...
