 Overview

Kalsubai (Marathi: कळसूबाई शिखर) is a mountain (1646 meters) of the Sahyadris range located in the Indian state of Maharashtra. Its summit situated at an elevation of 5400 feet, this is the highest point in Maharashtra which earns it the much glorified title of the 'Everest of Maharashtra'.

It takes 3 hours to reach Kalsubai summit  from Bari Village. Food can be arranged at base of the village; water and lemonade can be purchased during the hike as well .

Kalsubai Trekking Route is always full of people, some to conquer the highest peak in Maharashtra, some hike to Kalsubai to visit Temple and offer prayers to goddess Kalsubai.

Kalsubai trail has three ladders which has been installed by locals to make the hiking route easy.

Trekking Kalsubai Peak can be very tiring so carry food and water for energy. There is a small water well before reaching Kalsubai peak, a villager has set camp there and offers Pakoda (Indian Snack) and Tea.

Peak Kalsubai is a small plateau and offers a commanding view of nearby forts and Bhandardara Dam. During monsoon wind is very strong at Peak Kalsubai. 

You can also do a night trek in winter and enjoy the beautiful Sunrise at Kalsubai. It gets very cold atop Kalsubai before sunrise with strong wind. 

During October trail is full of flowers; types and colors of the flowers changes as the elevation changes. Also this trail is full of monkeys!

Getting There

 Base camp of Kalsubai is Bari Village (19.612342, 73.730884) which is around 150 km away from Mumbai, one can get to Bari village by private vehicle or by local train. Kasara is the closest railway station to Bari village, from Kasara Bari village can be reached by  taxi.

Route

Best Hiking route starts from Bari Village another route is from Indore which is less frequently used by hikers. 

Red Tape

To reach to the summit, hikers and villagers use iron ladders, at certain places ladder steps are missing. Because of the religious importance of this place Alcohol should be prohibited. 
There are lots of monkeys on the trail, avoid feeding them!
