From Pickering
Solo dayhike from Horseshoe Meadows. After traversing from Pickering, I descended the sandy slopes to Upper Rock Creek. Going up this way would have been miserable.

Day 2, #2
We hiked up the Meysan Lakes Trail and camped the 1st night on a saddle above the lake on the ridge up to Irvine. Then we traversed over to Mallory and LeConte before going down a gully and camping below Pickering. The next day we climbed Pickering, Joe Devel and Chamberlin and then down to Crabtree Lakes. The following day we went from Crabtree to the JMT and and climbed up Discovery Pinnacle before going down the Whitney Trail.

In mid-September 1999, 4 of us went into Rock Creek Canyon for a 6-day peak bagging expedition. We set up our base camp along Rock Creek, below Erin Lake. As luck would have it, we got hit by the remnant of a hurricane, and it rained almost every day, with occasional hail and lighting. On the first clear day, we climbed Joe Devel via the east face, which is easy and straightforward class 2-3 talus with some sand near the top. From there we crossed the ridge to Pickering and descended the Pickering's SE Ridge. Both of these peaks are easy and both have spectacular views. We didn't encounter anyone else the entire time we were in the Rock Creek drainage.
