Serviceberry
This member of the Rose Family is a valuable wild shrub. Indians ate the berries and made arrow shafts from the branches. Staple winter food - pemmican - was made of dried venison and the berries, pounded into a "cake".
So, after this sign, there is a small trail to the left, this is the trail you want to take to descent into the canyon.
