Weaving through a maze of rime ice near the top of the East Crater Wall above Devil's Kitchen

Voted 10/10 | I wonder if the fumaroles emit some caustic substance that could damage a rope? Anyway, nice job getting out and trying something semi-obscure. I remember gazing down 1D from the east crater rim last April. It looked worthwhile and definitely more interesting than Wy'east. | | Posted Dec 23, 2004 9:53 pm |

Hasn't voted | Yep... with the low snow cover this year, the warm rocks up from Devil's Kitchen were melting out in several places. At one point, we crossed a chossy, dirt slope and used our axe just like in the snow. A few minutes later, steam was coming out of the hole we made in the dirt. Was kind of freaky... if we go back, we will do with when it has more snow. | | Posted Dec 26, 2004 5:37 pm |

Voted 10/10 | I was up there yesterday wondering about that route. I could hear and see ice falling every few minutes from the cliffs. Excellent pic! | | Posted Dec 24, 2004 12:44 pm |
