Xixa seen from the west. Photo taken from a camp on the northern brink of the Himalayan main range. The November high winds in full action, blowing snow off the higher reaches of the peak.

It was a windy and very chilly day in a camp at the foot of the Himalayan range, west of Xixa. Later on in the day the wind really picked up and the plume of clouds and snow was stretched out like a mad looking pennant, probably tens of kms long. | | Posted Dec 20, 2004 7:32 pm |

Yes, it's one of the usual "clear-sky-storms". It's common in fall and early winter. The jetstreams are of really high speeds and so are the ground winds.
The snow plumes blowing off the higher peaks can be dozens of km long. | | Posted Oct 6, 2005 6:01 am |
