I was looking through some old slides and found this classic ice shot. I only took one photo on this trip to Bridalveil Falls near Stanley Lake and lost it for 38 years because it was sandwiched between my slides from another trip. I sent this to Frank and he replied:
Holy crap!! Look at that modern gear: a brand new Zero ax, an Alpine Hammer, and a carabiner with a "blind gate" (Chouinard Oval?)
And the rest of it is nothing short of a frickin' history lesson:
wool balaclava
Dachstein mittens
Karrimor cotton (!!!) anorak
and a shoulder harness made of seat belt webbing (attached to a similar made seat harness.)
But maybe the best part of the photo is my expression. "WTF do I do now?"
