August 2014 As nice of a hike as the trail to the summit of The Chief is, I wouldn't recommend doing it on a sunny, weekend afternoon in August. I have never seen so many people on a trail before. There was literally no break in the line of people shuffling up and down the mountain. Looking down on the kitesurfers from the first summit:
