I was at the Stettiner Hütte in mid July 2012. The normal hiking route to Hochwilde was officially closed due to danger of rockfall. Many people still ascended though. Ask the people at Stettiner Hütte for current status.
The new route is open - in summer that is, when most of the snow is gone.
