Very scenic hike from Tschafatsch Sattel/Sella Cavaccio to summit of Hammerwand/Cima di Maglio and down to Tschafonhütte/Rifugio Tschafon, mainly easy hiking train with a few sections of protected path (via ferrata style) although many do not use the protection. Ridge to summit of Hammerwand has a couple of somewhat exposed sections.
Either hike up Barrenfalle (trail 2) from Weisslanbad/Lavina Bianca to the saddle or approach using trail 1 from Völs am Schlern/Fie allo Sciliar via the lake, Tuffalm/Malga Tuff to Prügelsteig and Sessel Schwaige/Malga Sessel and then trail 9 to the Tschafatsch Sattel/Sella Cavaccio.
From Tschafatsch Sattel/Sella Cavaccio take trail 9 (West trail at crossing) up towards Nigglberg summit, good views back of Rosengarten/Catinaccio. On descent from Nigglberg summit there are a couple of sections of protected trail which can be used with via ferrate equipment (and can provide an easy introduction to the concept) but can be traversed without (as most do). Once on the Hammerwand there is a T in the path, continue straight on (West) for the summit or turn South for the descent to Tschafonhütte. Route to the summit is up and down along a ridge with a couple of somewhat exposed sections with serious consequences for a fall. After the summit cross return along the same ridge and head South down a valley and around to Tschafonhütte/Rifugio Tschafon.
Normal mountain hiking gear. No water/food available until Tschafonhütte. Via Ferrata equipment is optional but useful in places.
