Happy Isles Recorder

The analog recorder at the Happy Isles Trailhead following our hike to Vernal and Nevada Falls during flood conditions in Yosemite Valley. All the roads in and out of Yosemite were under water, so we were trapped in the Valley, but still had a spectacular hike mostly to ourselves. During our hike we had been told- by others as uninformed as us- that the closure might last a couple days. When we saw the gauge and that the peak was now over, we realized we might make it home tonight after all (the roads opened just less than an hour later). May 16, 2005
