I agree with the rating system

5.4 gunks is 5.5 (at least, elsewhere) The place is awesome, direct lines, exposure, verticle, pure fluid climbing moves abound. The only thing I dont like is that you have to pay to play. I'd be interested to hear your philosophy on fee for use areas. Great shot have you done Shockley's Ceiling or Froghead or N Exposure?

Re: I agree with the rating system

My view on the pay to play is I support it somewhat. Some of the money goes towards preserving the area FOR climbers and also towards fighting development and other environmental stuff, so it is not a waste PLUS I'm sure it keeps the crowds down somewhat, Imagine if it was free??????

Some of my Favorites are Ants line, Katzenjammer, Rhododendron, Walter Mitty, Clover, Baby, Arch, Ursula, Tequila Mockingbird, Beginners Delight, Raunchy, Wild Horses, and Gory Thumb.

Re: I agree with the rating system

Yeah I see your point. but for me I wonder how much of that actually goes where they say. One of the things I love about climbing, hiking and mountaineering is that you don't (usually have to pay) it seems to me that the access to the outdoors should be. But like everyone says if you don't like it you don't have to climb there. But being one of my favorite areas thats not really an option.

I think...

the 'rating system' is in need of changing.
But then ... I'm not a rock climber! I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express a couple nights ago. Gotta love those glorious slabs of rock! Have fun in those mountains! - LARRY :)))

Re: I think...

Your intellegence level has risen significantly since you stayed in the HIE, therefore you are pobably correct about the rating system regardless of your rock climbing experience.
